Homer Barber Jr.

Homer Barber Jr., age 97, of Holland, was peacefully called home to be with his Lord on Monday, December 3, 2018, and now joins his wife of 67 years, Marion Barber and his son, Brehm Barber. Homer was a WWII veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe. He attended Hope College, Cornell University, and graduated from Northwestern University. Homer worked in the paper industry for many years before retiring as President of Quality Energy. He was the oldest past president of the Grand Rapids Junior Chamber of Commerce where he was active for many years. Homer served his Lord with his time and talents in many ways including elder, deacon, and disaster relief. Over the years, he loved to travel and he also enjoyed running and participating in many organized running events. Above all, Homer treasured his family. Many memories were made that will be cherished for a lifetime. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, H. James and Viki Barber, Mark and Karen Barber, Mary and David Follett; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Barber; stepsister, Cork Dykema; special friends, Evan and Jun He; and several loving nieces and nephews of the Barber, VanderVeer, Boeve, and Cross families. The Barber family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff, caregivers, and friends at Vista Springs for all the love and compassionate care given to Homer during his time there. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 4375 Ivanrest Ave. SW, Grandville, with Rev. Jack Stulp, Rev. Barb Sanders and Rev. Tom VanderPloeg officiating.  Interment will be held at Lakewood Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to World Renew or Spectrum Health Hospice.
