June was born in Grand Rapids to Henry and Hermina VanderHoff, the fourth of what would become a family of eight children. She was named Hermina after her mother, but would always be called June. She lost her mother at the age of 12. When June was 14, she went to work at Pfeffer’s Drug Store in Galewood after her brother Ken suggested she get a job to overcome her intense shyness. That was an eventful time for her. She began her life-long habit of taking good care of herself. She learned to shop for clothes - she took the bus downtown to purchase the clothes she saw in “Seventeen” magazine. This became a lifelong “hobby.” It was at Pfeffer’s that she met Glenn Plummer. They went on their first date on June 28, 1947. On June 28, 1948 they became engaged and on June 28, 1949 they were married. Glenn was truly the love of her life. After his passing in 2000, she showed the strong stuff, she was made as she learned to manage life on her own, which she did very well. June gave up driving at the age of 90 and due to health issues moved into assisted living. There she made new friends and was loved by many. Her family and friends helped her stay busy with frequent outings, shopping trips and dining out. She was happiest when she was busy. June was the mother of Glenda (Tim), Jeff (Marsha), and Tom (Jill); grandmother to Glenn, Cy (Melissa), McKenzie (Josh), Becky (Upendra) and Will (Rachel); step-grandmother to Erinn (Aaron), Brent (Lisa), Meredith (Erich). She was great-grandmother to Rylan, Foxx, Kathleen, Damian, Arthur, Teddy, Ishan, Claire, Adelyn and Sutton; step-great-grandmother to Jack, Conner, Piper, and Wyatt. June was preceded in death by all her siblings; her husband, Glenn; and her son, Jeff. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, May 21 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2350 44th St. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Rob Schmidt officiating. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
