
Hermina Besselsen, age 98, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
She will be fondly remembered for her mastery of Scrabble, and exceptional talents as both a baker and seamstress, bringing joy and comfort to many through her creations.
Her strong faith and dedication to her community, particularly at Eastern Avenue, were central to her life and an inspiration to those around her. She cherished her time working at CRC Publications alongside her son, Al, where she undoubtedly made a positive impact.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; children, Jan Gibbs, Judith Besselsen, Alan Besselsen, and Beth Besselsen; siblings, Janet Gaalswyk, Johanna VerMulm, Arlene Van Holland; sisters-in-law, Nancy Besselsen, Rose Koning.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Karen Besselsen; grandchildren and great grandchildren; Dan and Sandra Besselsen (Lorelei, Mariele, Elias), Jon and Jill Besselsen (Natalie, Henry), Matt and Morgan Besselsen (Kennedy, Julian, Palmer), Drew and Lauren Besselsen (Jack); sister, Bernice Tilstra; brother, Marvin and Eleanor Vonk; sister-in-law, Sandra Clovin; dear friends, Janet Borgdorf, Annette Byl, and Joyce Vugteveen; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Eastern Avenue Church, 514 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Thea Leunk and Rev. Lindsay Small officiating. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm at the church prior to the service.
