Herman Scholtens

Herman Scholtens, age 80, of Allendale was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on  Sunday, September 3, 2017. Herm was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa who so willingly gave of his time and talents to others. He graduated in 1955 from Oak Park River Forest High School and after proudly served his country in the US Army.  After returning from the service, he continued working at Illinois Bell as an installer and later became an assigner until he retired in 1997. Following retirement, Herm and Geri moved their home to Allendale and joined Robinson Baptist Church, serving in various ways.  Over the years Herm enjoyed watching his Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks, and also enjoyed target shooting and archery. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Geri; his children, Mark and Julia Scholtens, Annette and Robert Hoenisch, Duane and Melissa Scholtens, Kenneth and Barbara Scholtens; his grandchildren, Andrew and Sara Miller, Phillip and Terri Miller, Margaret, David, Jonathan, and Joseph Hoenisch, Paige, Peighton, and Lainey Scholtens, Colter, Kyle, Elizabeth, and Emma Scholtens; his great-grandchildren, Addy, and Chloe Miller, Liam, Kason, Everett, and Hudson Miller; his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Barbara Scholtens; several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Robinson Baptist Church, 12011 120th Ave., Grand Haven, with Pastor Tim Kitchen officiating. Interment Allendale Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott St., Allendale.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Robinson Baptist Church or to Easter Seals.
