Herman Schipper

Herman (Herm) Schipper, just 3 days short of his 99th birthday, passed away April 3 at 6:45 am. He went to be with His Lord, who he faithfully served, and his wife of 72 years, Deane, who preceded him on July 22, 2015 at age 95. Herman was a WWII 1st Sergeant who served in the Army artillery. He shared many stories in the last few years.  He was a charter member of Faith Protestant Reformed Church in Jenison and served the Protestant Reformed churches many years as deacon and elder and served on the Protestant Reformed school board several times.  Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Grace, and all of his siblings and their spouses, Marinus, Donald, Alberta, Margaret, Bernice, Betty, and Harold. He was the last surviving member of that family and lived the longest.  Also preceding were his wife's siblings and spouses, Jay Stouten, Sarah Stouten Knott, Clare and Ann Prince, Art and Elaine Kerkstra. Of that family, Bernie and Fran Woudenberg survive.  Surviving are his children, Linda and Roy Cotton, Jerry and Pat Schipper; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; close friend, Jim Van Overloop; and many nieces and nephews.  Many thanks to special neighbors, Nancy Feenstra and Tammy Schram for all you did.  A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 7 at Georgetown Township Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Harmony Homes (Men's home) of Jenison where his grandson resides.
