Helene VanHuis

On October 21, 2019, Helene Joyce VanHuis (Avink) went to be with her Savior.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ida (Kortman) Avink.  Helene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas L. VanHuis; five children, James T. VanHuis, Sandra K. Rounds, Shanna L. VanHuis (Raymond Swart), Thomas J. VanHuis (Margaret), Heather J. Karr (Thomas); 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard Avink and Richard Avink.  Helene was a graduate of Unity Christian High School.  She worked in agriculture at HJ Heinz for 13 years and delivered the Allendale Advance for 33 years.  Helene had a love for gardening and camping.  She was a devout Christian and played an active role in the church ministries for many years.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family, but most of all by her loving husband.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, 11 am at Evergreen Ministries, 4512 48th Ave, Hudsonville, 49426, with Pastor Jason Vermeulen officiating.  Interment Blendon Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. and also from 10-11 prior to the service at church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help offset funeral costs, with any above what is needed going to the Holland Rescue Mission.
