December 12, 1941 ~
March 19, 2022

On March 19, 2022, in God’s infinite wisdom, our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was taken to glory. Surrounded by his entire family, as we sang “In the Sweet By and By, we shall meet on that beautiful shore”, His salvation was made complete when the Lord called him home where he now sings eternally in the heavenly rest. He will be remembered by his wife, Cheryl, who was by his side for 58 years and never missed an opportunity to be with him. His children, Kurt and Ruth Kaptein, Sandy and Steve Schout, Doug and Tammy Kaptein, and Dennis and Lori Kaptein, will remember the heritage of the Christian faith that he led with by example, his words of encouragement, and his care that he gave to our mother. His 17 grandchildren: Amy Kaptein, Laura and Ben Lubbers, Kelly and Justin Smidstra, Brandon and Macey Kaptein, Kara Kaptein, Shelley and Taylor Huttinga, Staci and Nate Hovinga, Dana and Miles Ulberg, Caleb and Allison Schout, Ashtyn and Corey Collins, Kennedy and Clayton Heneveld, Zach Kaptein, Corie Kaptein, Nate and Grace Kaptein, Abby Kaptein, Chloe Kaptein, Cassie Kaptein, and 12 great-grandchildren will remember his words of wisdom, his selfless attitude and the Word of God in song as he loved to sing. He is also remembered by his brothers and sister, Gary and Judy Kaptein, Lynda and Marc Scholten, and Jim and Evie Kaptein; brother-in-law and sister-in-laws, Nancy Barense, Vern Padding, and Mary Elling. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Grace Protestant Reformed Church, 11225 8th Ave. NW, Grand Rapids with Rev. Justin Smidstra and Rev. Bob VanManen officiating. A graveside service will take place at Coopersville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the church, and also 10-10:45 am prior to the service on Wednesday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Protestant Reformed Special Education.
