December 25, 2025

Harlyn Gene Sall passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born on July 27, 1939 and grew up in Allendale, Michigan.

A lifetime member of First Allendale Christian Reformed Church, he spent his childhood riding bikes, playing baseball, and working hard on the family farm. He was particularly fond of driving his dad’s Farmall tractor. He later restored a replica and enjoyed bringing it to tractor shows.

He spent many years as the assistant store manager of ShopRite where he made lifelong friendships with co-workers and customers. He turned his talent of giving old furniture new life into a business, H & S Upholstery (the S was for Sandy, his wife and quality control supervisor). He took great pride in his work and loved to make his customers happy. He also drove a bus for Allendale Christian School for 20 years. He loved his route, the kids, and the responsibility of getting to school and back home safely every day.

Harlyn loved playing baseball in high school, men's travel teams, and rec leagues. He especially loved playing on a coed team with his kids. He was a patient, loving, generous, caring husband, father, and grandfather

He loved to travel and camp with his wife and grandkids, bike ride, listen to gospel music, and play his trumpet in his church quartet. He was honored to play Taps at many funerals for veteran friends. His focus to love and honor God were evident throughout the way he lived his life and raised his family.

Harlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (DeJong) Sall; son, Doug Sall; parents, John and Rena Sall; and brothers, Allyn, Terry, and Dale Sall. He is survived by his children, Deb (Randy) Willis, Dianne (Gary) Torno, and Cindy (Bruce) Driesenga; his sister Joy (Larry) Visser; and sisters-in-law, Janice, Marian, and Delores Sall. His many grandchildren and great-grandchildren mourn his loss.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 10-11:15 am at First Allendale CRC, 5734 Country View Drive, Allendale. The family will have a private service to celebrate his life.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Allendale CRC or Corewell Health Hospice. A special thanks to Emily, Brian, and Kim for their love and excellent care for Harlyn.
