He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 20 years, Roxanne; his children, Alicia (Jason) Walcott, Scott Harkema (Amber Retig); grandchildren; Abigail, Elijah, Walcott, Adalyn, Aleiah Harkema; step-children, Brett Bigorowski, Brian (Angela) Bigorowski, Brandon (Anne) Bigorowski; step-grandchildren, Isaac, Jacob, Isabelle, Leo, Jane, Henry, Braylon, and Bryson; sisters, Bonnie (Ken) Vlasblom, Pam (Gary) Fennema; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Doug was a warm, loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and was diligent about attending the kids and grandkids sporting events. He enjoyed teaching the kids how to work on cars and playing with them. He was a devoted member of Mars Hill Bible Church where he displayed his faith and led others to the Lord. Doug was a dedicated employee and manager of VanSingel Electric Company for over 40 years. He was a perfectionist who made sure whatever he did was done correctly. Doug loved to watch the birds and deer in the backyard, play golf, and downhill ski. He had a great work ethic and spent very little time just sitting and relaxing. He preferred to be busy working around the house, mowing the lawn, keeping up with projects, etc. A private Memorial Service for Doug will be held on Tuesday, December 1 at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Friends and relatives may meet the family from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with private family visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Due to COVID-19, occupancy of the building is limited to 25 persons at a time. The family requests that donations be made in Doug’s name to a charity of your choice.
