Gustaf “Gussie”  DeBaets

DeBaets, Gustaf "Gussie" DEBAETS:  Gustaf “Gussie” DeBaets, age 85, of Grandville, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, July 15, 2012, after a year-long battle with cancer.  He will be deeply missed everyday by his wife of 45 years, Marilyn “Kitten”; their children and grandchildren, Jeannine and Tim Phelps (Tim Jr., Brian), Robyn and Trent Groendyke (Bret and Michelle, Emmy) Kym and Jeff Zwagerman (Brandon, Jordan, Tyler and Jenny, Abbey), Thom and Heidi Postema (Amanda, Amy and Jim, Keegan, Axton, Tailin), 5 great-grandchildren; and last but not least, his cat Winnie.  Gus was a kind soul who loved his family, his homeland of Belgium where he played soccer as a boy, a good round of golf or a Tiger game.  He retired from Kelvinator along with his wife Marilyn in 1987 after 33 years of hard work.  According to his wishes cremation has taken place.  No services will be held.  A private family gathering will be held at a later time.  Donations in his name may be made to the Humane Society or Faith Hospice.
