Grada “Dien” Docter

Grada “Dien” Docter, age 95, of Bauer, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10, 2015. She was born January 10, 1920 in Breedenbroek, The Netherlands where she grew up and worked on the farm. During the German occupation, she met Gerrit who was hiding on their farm because the Germans wanted him to go into military service.  They were married July 8, 1948 and immigrated to the United States. They lived in Fremont, MI for 9 years before settling in Byron Center for 35 years. Finally in 1999, they moved to Bauer where they became members of Bauer Christian Reformed Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Gerrit and her daughter, Aleida “Lia” Oosterbaan. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jackie “Cobie” and Bob Wagner, Grada “Ada” and Steve Groen, Arend “Arie” and Nancy Docter; son-in-law, Dale and Linda Oosterbaan; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Riek Wisman, Wilhelmina and Willem Koskamp; half sister, Lies Lensinks; brothers-in-law, Bill and Teuny Docter, Ben and Hermina Docter; sister-in-law,  Hennie and Harley Schmidtke; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday 7:00 pm at Bauer Christian Reformed Church, 4958 Bauer Rd, Hudsonville. Interment Blendon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Holland’s Right to Life.
