Gordon VandenBrink, age 89, of Hudsonville, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was born January 2, 1932, graduated from Central High School, and attended Grand Rapids Jr. College. In 1952, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. Gordon married Joan Johnson in June 1953 and lived in Long Beach, CA, until he was discharged from the Coast Guard in January 1955. He then got a job on a survey crew at Williams and Works where he worked for 39 years. Gordon became a Registered Land Surveyor and in 1963 began drawing up land surveys until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Society of Land Surveyors. Gordan loved his family and enjoyed golfing, camping, boating, playing cards, board games, and dice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Laura (Jorgensen) VandenBrink; sister Mary (VandenBrink) McKenzie; oldest son, Steven R. VandenBrink; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Longeway) Johnson. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years, Joan (Johnson) VandenBrink; children, Dennis (Nancy) VandenBrink, Kathy (David) Corey, Karla (Kurt) Stevens; daughter-in-law, Therese VandenBrink; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rogers Johnson; a special cousin, Patsy (Jerry) Throop; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, November 21, from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
