Gertrude Schimmel

Gertrude (Jager, Boven) Schimmel, age 96, of Jenison went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2023. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Delmar Boven; second husband, James Schimmel; daughter, Barbara Schimmel; all of Gertrude’s siblings; and close friend and cousin, Maxine Nederhood. Gert will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Lou Schimmel, Tom and Sue Boven, Dale and Vicki Boven, Cheryl and Dan Dahnke, Ruth Ann and Eric Jordan; grandchildren, Ryan and Donique, Kristen and Adam, Lisa and Kurt, Amy and Chris, Jasmine, Kelly and Casey, Andrew and Stephanie, Heather and Doug, Chloe and Alex, Elliot; and 19 great-grandchildren. Gert enjoyed golfing, working in her garden, and tending her flowers. She stayed active participating in, and teaching, water aerobics, taking bus trips, and volunteering at the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Kelloggsville Christian Reformed Church, 610 52nd St. SE, Kentwood with Pastor Martin Benckhuysen officiating. Burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, October 25 from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and from 9:30-10:15 am prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bibles for Missions Thrift Center.
