Gerrit Huitsing

Gerrit Huitsing, age 94, of Jenison, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Grace Huitsing; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Karla Huitsing; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Huitsing. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Gladys; his children, Pete and Sylvia Huitsing, John and Tami Huitsing, Gary Huitsing; grandchildren, Shaina and Philip Sims, Nicole and Jackson Brown, Johnny and Morgan Huitsing, Kellie and Robert Roblin; great-grandchildren, Theodor, Wyatt, and Edward Sims, Monroe, and Elijah Brown, Talia Roblin; Gladys’ children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Gerrit proudly served in the Dutch Army and later served in the Michigan National Guard after immigrating from The Netherlands. He retired after many years as an architect, and he was a charter member of Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church. In his younger years, he stayed active running and completing marathons and triathlons. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10-11:15 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
