Gerben Kuyers, age 97, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Cambridge Manor in Georgetown Township. Gerben was the youngest of nine children born to Albert and Annie Kuyers of Borculo. In 1941 he married Alma June Bowman. They were married 57 years until her death in 1999. Gerben loved dairy farming until his retirement in 1984. He then moved to Muskegon on the Lake Michigan Shoreline. Gerben was a member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church of Muskegon. He had a passion for baseball; especially his Detroit Tigers and he rarely missed a game. Gerben is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Hoekstra Kleis (David), Marcia Kuyers, Kristi Wilson (Tom); five grandchildren, Sarah Blanchard, Rebekah Pearson, Anne Baird, Tim Wilson, Jon Wilson; special friend, Gil Grevel; and sister-in-law, Margaret Bowman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Rev. Rick Kiekintveld officiating. Interment Borculo Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
