Gerard E. Van Wyk, age 89, born July 9, 1926, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Betty; daughter, Carol Goudzwaard; son-in-law, Dr. Keith Heeringa; granddaughter, Jeanne Bolkema; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He enjoyed life to the fullest. His faith, family, and friends were cherished dearly. Jerry had the gift of conversation, establishing many friendships throughout the years. He had a love for the outdoors and was an avid bicyclist and sailor. Jerry was blessed with the gift of creativity through his expressions of art, poetry, music, and the things he made. He was a WWII veteran who proudly served his country in the US Navy. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sue Heeringa, James and Judy Van Wyk, Barb and Rick Bolkema, Cindy and John DeYoung, Dirk and Sherry Van Wyk; 30 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren; his special friend and companion, Ruth Mastbergen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, at 11 AM at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming with Pastor Kent Rottman officiating. Interment will be held at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW and on Monday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.
