Gerald “Jerry” DeMaagd

Gerald DeMaagd, age 94, of Wyoming, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.   He was preceded in death by his son William DeMaagd, brother Marvin DeMaagd, sister Betty Bender. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 31 years, Rose; children, Dr. Robert (Debra) DeMaagd, Diane (Dan) Rietema, Deborah (Bill) Richter-Polanic, Jeffrey Richter, Teresa Richter, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brother Dr. Harvey DeMaagd, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry founded the Gerald DeMaagd Insurance Agency, later becoming DeMaagd & Richter, and worked there until his passing. Jerry valiantly served his country during World War II as a B-24 bomber pilot in the Army Air Corp.  He was an avid boater and thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Spring Lake.  Jerry was a gregarious, welcoming man who loved having family and friends around, both in Michigan and Florida.  He and Rose loved to tour the country in their motorhome and visit family and friends.The funeral service will be held 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave. on Tuesday, October 24 with Fr. Michael Alber presiding.  Friends and relatives may meet the family from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm on Monday, October 23 at the Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with a vigil at 6pm. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Spectrum Hospice or St. John Vianney Building Fund.
