George William Mack, age 79, of Hudsonville, peacefully passed into the hands of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, while surrounded by family.
George was born on February 22, 1947, into a large and loving family in Defiance, OH. The stories he told about those years are legendary, and his children and grandchildren heard them over and over. As George’s children grew up, he would often bring them to his hometown for family gatherings, which were always a spectacle. The banter between George and his siblings was like no other. You had to be able to take it and dish it out, and his family’s sense of humor is a shared trait that has been passed down.
George graduated from High School in 1965 and moved on to Findlay College. He made many lifelong friends there as a member and President of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He enjoyed returning to Findlay for reunions and to reconnect with friends.
After graduating from college in 1969, he embarked on a career that eventually led to him founding his own company, Anchor Business Forms & Systems, in 1985. His outgoing personality and dogged work ethic led to a highly successful career, from which he retired in 2008. He became great friends with many of his customers, and they would listen to him brag about his kids and grandkids every time he stopped by.
George was the life of the party, and he never met a stranger. He would run into people he knew wherever he would travel. He loved being around people and was always out meeting and making new friends. George had friends from all walks of life-there was no judgement in him, and everyone who knew him has a great story, or 2, or 8, to tell about him.
He was very generous, not just with money, but with his time. He would help anyone he thought needed it and there are many stories about his generosity that few know about. He loved his church family at Sunrise Ministries, developing strong relationships that were very important to him.
Family has always been the most important thing on earth to him. His wife of 41 years, Jeanine, was the love of his life. They enjoyed spending time together with family and friends, and vacationing in Florida and elsewhere. They loved golfing and exploring new restaurants- sometimes just the two of them, sometimes with their beloved friends. Tom and Nancy Doyle are special lifelong friends with whom they had many adventures. Favorite times together were spent on their boat on the lake behind their house, especially when their children and grandchildren were there.
George was a very loving Dad. He never missed his kids’ sporting events, and choir and band concerts as they grew up, and would brag to anyone who would listen about their exploits. He was always there to lend a hand, give advice, and support them in any way they needed. He taught his kids that family comes first, and he was a role model who had a special, cherished relationship with each of his 5 children. They will miss him tremendously.
As time went on, George’s grandchildren became his favorite blessings. He adored each and every one of them, and they loved him fiercely. He would whisper to each one “you’re my favorite grandchild, just don’t tell the others,” and they all believed him. He taught them about life and loved having them over to his place on Apio Lake, where they would fish and take rides on the pontoon boat. He was so proud of them and bragged about them to everyone who would listen. It is a blessing that he was able to spend time with each grandchild before he passed on. They are his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Howard Mack and Dorothy (Zenz) Mack; Stepmother Lodema Kunz; siblings, Corinne Buff, Howard J. “Bro” Mack, Leann Schwab, Mary Ann Schafer, Sharon Lane, Richard “Adlai” Mack; and many beloved in-laws. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Jeanine; children, Brian (Tanya) Mack, Katie (Chris) Deming, Jessica McCarty, Lauren (Rob) Thorington, Jordan (Brittni) Mack, grandchildren: Mikayla, Gabriella, Addison, Cameron, Kyle, Bennett, Liam, Mia, Quinn, Carter, and Adalee; siblings, Marlene Lantow, Suzanne (Merlin ”Joe”) Butler, Gregory (Dianne) Mack; siblings-in-law, Eckel Lane, William (Lisa) Soeters, Robert (Brenda) Soeters; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Bill VanderWerp officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 20 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home and on Thursday from 10-10:45 am prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Guiding Light.
