George Veltema, Jr., age 88, of Jenison, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 12, 2017, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stewart, Marvin and Marvin’s twin sister in infancy; sisters-in-law, Lorna and June; brothers-in-law, Don Boerman, Ted Stursma. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Jean; children, Terri and Terry Butler, Gwen and Dennis Klemm, Carmen and Michael Kuncaitis; 10 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren on the way; 3 step great grandsons; sisters, Leona Boerman, Verna and Warren Faber, Evelyn Stursma; sisters-in-law, Cornelia Veltema, Geneva Hoolsema, Joyce Baker, Marlene and John Natelborg, Carol and Jim Van Wyhe; many nieces and nephews. George proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army, retired from the Post Office and remained a faithful member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for a total of 60 years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, billiards and the fruitful abundance of West Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, October 16, 2017, at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Chaplain Mark Minegar officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-5 pm at the funeral home and Monday from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Unity Christian High School or Jenison Christian School.
