
George Van Antwerp, age 91, of Byron Center, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 10, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cheryl Van Antwerp; his son, Tom Van Antwerp; his daughter, Lori Van Antwerp; his grandson, Tommy Van Antwerp; his sister, Janet Coeling and her husband, Bob; and his brother-in-law, Rocky Kinsman.
He will be remembered as a happy and adventurous husband, father, and grandfather. He owned and operated a trash hauling business for many years and took pride in his work. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, riding his bike, and golfing. He was an athletic man who also loved watching sports, especially Michigan State.
Outgoing and friendly, he had a strong faith and found comfort in reading his Bible. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures, including root beer barrels, Wilhelmina mints, and anise squares.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 34 years, Sharon; children, Bonnie and Doug Burgess, Michael and Gerri Van Antwerp, Debbie Van Antwerp, Tami and Joe Huf, Lisa and Dean Pepper; stepchildren, Michael and Laurie Vander Ploeg, Laura and Daniel Bigelow, Mark and Cami Vander Ploeg; 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Kinsman, brother, Fred and Caroline Van Antwerp; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Grace Bible Church, 3715 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville with Pastor Todd Kinde and Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will take place at Garfield Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday from 10-11 am at church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya, 8401 Thomas Pike, Shelby, MI 49455.
