
Betty L. (DeVries) Carpenter, age 87, passed away at the Oaks of Belmont on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Betty was born in Comstock Park, MI, to the late William J. and Leone DeVries. She was a loving and devoted mom, grandma, and great-grandma and cherished her family. Blessed with an independent spirit, she enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including trips to the casino, playing bingo, and spending time knitting. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to her work. She managed Pine Aire Mobile Home Park for many years before a career with Michigan Bulb Company, where she faithfully worked until her retirement.
She is survived by her children, Rosemary and Randy Long, Deb and Mark Holland, and David and Tracy Carpenter; her grandchildren, Amanda and Josh Miller, Amber Vanderbilt, Mark Holland Jr., Melissa and Ross Schad, Jacob and Audrey Carpenter, Micah Carpenter, and Noah Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jasmine, Josie, Luke, Logan, Jordan, Addyson, Grayson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rolen and Betty Carpenter, Gordon and Sue Carpenter; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Carpenter; brother, William R. DeVries.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Betty’s life will be held Sunday, October 18, from 2-5 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Dr. N.E, Belmont, 49306. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Interim Hospice. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Interim Hospice and The Oaks of Belmont for the love and compassionate care given to Betty.
