George Hiemstra

George Hiemstra, age 92, of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 10, 2023. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shelley and Randy VanDyke, Bruce and Loris Hiemstra, Brian and Ruth Hiemstra, Sharon Hiemstra and Eric Craymer; grandchildren, Bob and Jen VanDyke, Nick VanDyke, David, Rebecca (deceased), and Dan Hiemstra, Rachel and Josh Vandegrift, Joshua Hiemstra and Meredeth Fennema, and Liz Hiemstra; great-grandchildren, Easton, Bennett, and Oliver Vandegrift. George was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maxine, and his brother, Charles Hiemstra. George grew up in North Haledon, New Jersey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Calvin University and then worked at Travelers Insurance in Grand Rapids for more than 30 years. George and Maxine loved to travel, they especially enjoyed visiting historic lighthouses. They were dedicated Calvin College basketball fans and George was an avid golfer. He and Maxine also found joy in volunteering their time wherever they were needed. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, 1571 Baldwin St. Jenison. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family from 10-11am at the church prior to the start of the funeral service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Calvin University Annual Fund.
