Gaylord Schuur

Gaylord Abe Schuur, age 78, of Wyoming, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 4, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Francis Schuur; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Pat Schuur; sister, Donna Whitcomb; and parents-in-law, Harold and Julia Kraker. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; children, Greg and Kinda Schuur, Geoff and Katie Schuur, Mitch and Theresa Schuur; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne and Corinne Schuur, Bob Ellis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends and his special dog, Madison. Gaylord served in the Kent County Sheriff Department on road patrol as well as the detective bureau. He also served as paid-on-call Captain with the Wyoming Fire Department at Station 3. After retirement, Gaylord served as Court Security Officer for both State and Federal courts. He also delivered caskets for the Batesville Casket Company. Gaylord was a congenial, lively, friend, neighbor and relative. He was a warm, loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and spoiled them as often as possible. He attended as many of his kids’ and grandkids’ activities as possible. He was an active man tending his garden and yard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Madison Square Christian Reformed Church, 1441 Madison Ave. SE, with Pastor Andrea Bult officiating. The burial will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and also on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
