With deep sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Gavin Christopher Denning, on March 24, 2025, in Grandville, Michigan. Though his life was too brief, it was filled with love, joy, and countless cherished moments.
Gavin was the youngest of three children born to Seth and Kristine Denning at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on September 8, 2005. Gavin was proud to be part of a Coast Guard family and lived life to the fullest wherever they were stationed. An adventurous and curious soul, Gavin enjoyed a variety of family activities including hiking, biking, camping, and beachcombing in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, and Michigan. As he grew up, he developed a diverse range of interests to include cooking, hunting, archery, fishing, rock climbing, woodworking, and general tinkering.
He excelled in academics and had a penchant for learning, especially in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences. As a scholar athlete at Crofton High School in Maryland, Gavin was a captain of his cross-country team and pole vaulted for the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, culminating in competing at the Maryland State Championship in his senior year. Following his passion for engineering, Gavin attended the University of Kentucky to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. From growing up in a military family, he developed the desire to serve his country and joined the Army ROTC program where he thrived. While taking a gap year prior to transferring to Michigan State University, he worked at the local Costco.
Gavin will be missed for his bright smile, quick wit, independence, and willingness to help others. He was always on the hunt for a Reuben sandwich better than his own. His warm hugs will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to experience them.
Gavin is survived by his parents, Seth and Kristine Denning, his sister, Laila, and brother, Nathan.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Gavin. Your memory will forever be a part of us, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held at MKD Funeral Home in Grandville, MI (4145 Chicago Dr SW) on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from fourteen hundred to sixteen hundred hours (2-4 pm).
