Gabriel Dehen

July 23, 2022

Gabriel Isaac Dehen, age 7, of Hudsonville, was carried home by the angels to see his Savior, Jesus, face to face, on Saturday, July 23, 2022. From his first day of life, it was clear he would face battles. It was found that he was one of 100 known children in the world with the PIGA gene mutation. There were four boys in his family tree who passed away at a young age, but Gabriel was the first to receive the PIGA diagnosis because of medical advances. With 72 hospitalizations, Gabriel lived up to the meaning behind his name “God is my Strength,” and he fought a good fight. Overwhelming love from his family, community and friends, professional and spiritual, carried Gabe and his family through all of his battles. His parents, David and Christina, found incredible support from families that also faced medical challenges. Although he couldn’t speak, he taught us, his parents, more about life than anyone we had ever met. He enjoyed Christmas lights, listening to music, swinging, and car rides. He also loved his best friend, Addison, whom he joined in heaven. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry and Marilyn Kay Dehen; great-grandparents, Lawrence Cirrito, Rose (Raymond) Friend, and Donald Frank; uncle, Matthew Frank; and cousin, Robert Puls. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, David and Christina Dehen; grandparents, Cheryl Shanks, Rickey Frank; great-grandma, Earnestine Cirrito; aunts and uncles, Suzette (Andrew) Ebersole, Trinity Penny, Henry Daniel (Debra) Dehen, Darcy (Roger) Meyer, Debra Sue (Winston) Hunt, Mary (William) Stewart, Clay (Ann) Dehen; cousins, Jeremiah, Caleb, Chloe, Jonathan, Emily, Lacey, Renee, Amanda, Samatha, Cole, and Danny. The family expresses their appreciation to all of Gabe’s medical staff and home nurses, which are too many to name, for the special care and compassion given during his lifetime. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Georgetown Christian Fellowship, 3668 Port Sheldon Street, Hudsonville, with his dad, Pastor David Dehen, officiating. The burial will take place at Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday, July 29, from 5-8 p.m. at Georgetown Christian Fellowship. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Drug Repurposing Project for PIGA-CDG https://secure.givelively.org/donate/cdg-care/drug-repurposing-project-for-piga-cdg
