Frederick Owen Colligan

After a courageous battle with cancer, Frederick Owen Colligan, age 76, went to his heavenly reward surrounded by the love of his family. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Mabel Colligan, his sister, Barbara McPhaul, his brother, Ron Colligan and many in-laws, Oscar and Lucille Nelson, Lee Nelson, Betty Colligan, Don Egeler and Glen McPhaul. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue (Nelson); his children, Donna (Steve) Decker, Karen (Ed) Baweja, Mary Beth (Richard) Armitage, John (Jill) Colligan; grandchildren, Alexa and Trevor Decker, Brittany and Holly Baweja, Sam and Becky Striker, Chase and Claudia Colligan; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Leah, Jack and Max; brother, Chuck (Marian) Colligan, Raymond (Karla) Colligan; sister, Clara Egeler; in-laws, Joyce Colligan, Mary Lou (Dan) Myers, John Nelson, Jim (Pam) Nelson; many nieces and nephews. Fred loved his God and his family. He proudly served in the US Air Force. As a long-time member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, he was a faithful volunteer with a servant’s heart. He was always willing to give of himself to anyone in need. He was an inspiration and a model to all who know him. His friendly smile, positive attitude and gentle humor brought sunshine to our lives. He leaves an empty hole in our hearts. He was an avid golfer and will be missed by his friends at Indian Trails. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Friday, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1630 Godfrey SW. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Thursday 2-4pm & 6-8pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home. 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with a Prayer Service at 7pm. Visitation also will be Friday 10-11am at the church prior to the service. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the care provided by the staff of Faith Hospice. Contributions in Fred’s memory may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church or Right to Life of Michigan.
