Fred Chivis, Jr.

Fred Sidney Chivis, Jr., age 69, of Grandville was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. He was a servant of the Lord and was proud of his Native American heritage. As an avid MSU fan, he always cheered on the “Green and White”. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Yvonne (Courter); children, Jessica and Jason Blain, Fred Chivis III, Cherie Chivis and Chris Oracz, Amanda Chivis and Greg Wallace, Megan and Cody Sheridan; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Linda Chivis, Gary and Jeanne Chivis, Dennis Chivis, Diane Heibel, Brian and Jennifer Chivis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Pat Courter, Dave and Marlene Courter, Dale Courter, Russell Courter; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred, Sr. and Maxine (Homrich) Chivis; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Alice Courter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday 11 am at St. Pius X, 3937 Wilson Ave., Grandville, with Fr. Chris Roesch Celebrant. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 4-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Wyoming) 4031 Clyde Park SW and on Saturday from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Friday at 7 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota.
