Evelyn Grimm

Evelyn Grimm, age 82, passed from this life to the next on Monday, June 10, 2019.  Evelyn has been a fantastic wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love for her family has been a wonderful picture of God’s love for us. Ev loved to talk with people and laugh. Her hugs have made her kids and grandkids feel unconditionally loved all their lives. Today she is better by far, wrapped in the arms of her savior Jesus Christ. She spent her early married life raising her family and then went to work and volunteered at the Calvin Christian Library and Nice Twice.  She loved walking, often logging several miles per day.  After 50, she even took up running, figuring she’d try doing what so many of us had done in our early years.  Ev loved hosting the family at a rented cottage at Murray Lake for many years.  Ev and Frank loved to travel.  One year they took the family on a summer long roundabout trip to California and back, showing their children so much of our beautiful country along the way.  Ev was never without ice cream in the freezer and she never forgot a birthday.  She rarely missed one of her kids sporting events.  In retirement, Ev and Frank traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska, along with many trips down to Branson with friends.  In her later years, she enjoyed morning beach walks at Holland State Park.  Evelyn will be greatly missed by her husband, Frank, the love of her life, for 61 years; six children, Steve and Jan Grimm, Gayla and Jack Boersma, Karen and Bruce Huttenga, Mindy Grimm, Eric and Kris Grimm, Evie Irvin; 17 grandchildren, Abby and Trevor Uitvlugt, Molly Grimm, Chelsey and Neal Scott, Dane and Lisa Boersma, Corin Boersma, Adam Huttenga, Cole Huttenga,  Alyssa Oetman, Jason and Kelsey Oetman, Jenna Oetman, Tyler and Kelly Grimm,  Laura Grimm, Kelli Grimm, Brooklyn Irvin, Makayla Irvin, Jagger Irvin, Gunner Irvin; five great-grandchildren, Mason and Amelia Scott, Emma, Ava, and Ezra Grimm; sisters and brothers, Helen Heilman, Bert VanderHaar, George and Sharon VanderHaar, Pete VanderHaar, Frank and Toni VanderHaar, Greta and Sherwin Heyboer, Betty and Del Heilman; and her forever friend, Beatrice VanHouten. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Peter and Billy VanderHaar.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Tom Groelsema officiating.  Interment will be held at Kent Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
