October 15, 2026

Diane Kimar-Luman, dedicated wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2026. She was 56 years old.

Diane was born in November of 1969 in Munising, Michigan to David and Christine Kimar. She was a 1987 graduate of Munising High School. She continued her education, earning degrees from Northern Michigan University and Central Michigan University. As an educator, Diane taught at Greenville Public Schools for 30 years. After retirement, she continued to cherish and foster her lifelong friendships that she made with the staff at Cedar Crest Elementary School.

Diane was married to the love of her life, Wayne Luman.  Together they enjoyed traveling, bee keeping, line dancing, crafting, and spending time with their first grandchild.

Diane found beauty and gratitude in nature and the simple things. She loved the Upper Peninsula and found peace in walking the shores of Lake Superior where she picked rocks, beach glass and driftwood for crafting. She loved spending time in her greenhouse and by the pool, and treasured the special moments she shared with family and friends. Diane was strong, hard-working, wise, witty and kind. Her life was not always easy, but she met every challenge with determination, humor, common sense and a positive attitude. She was very proud of her Finnish/SISU heritage and U.P. roots.

Diane is survived by her husband, Wayne; sons, Michael Hansen, Cody (Marjorie) Hansen and Alexander (Avery) Luman; mother, Christine Kimar; sisters, Sarah Kimar, Catherine Kimar and Anne (Ric) O’Neal; niece, Joy; nephews, Adam Trefzer, and David O’Neal, and her beautiful new grandson, August. Additionally, she is survived by her aunts, Barbara (Joe) Hase and Debra (Will) Oas, numerous cousins and a multitude of friends from her Cedar Crest family.

Diane is preceded in death by her father, David Kimar, and brother, Tommy Trefzer.

Diane believed in loving people well, fostering friendships and being supportive of others. While recently grieving the loss of her brother and cousin, she said, “The world is still beautiful and the sun still rises. Love your people well. We are not promised tomorrow.”

Visitation for Diane will be held on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at MKD Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, MI 49306. A time of sharing and remembrance will follow at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of plants or flowers, donations can be made to the Greenville Area Community Foundation Memorial Gifts Fund in memory of Diane Kimar-Luman, or the Alger County Animal Shelter in Munising, Michigan.
