
Eugene Dale Piers, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Jenison, MI surrounded by his family. He was born in Jenison on October 20, 1935, to John J. and Tilda (Bomers) Piers, the youngest in a family of seven children. Gene graduated from Grandville High School in 1954 and went on to service in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Julian, Bob, Lorraine, Beatrice, Thelma, and Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian (Helmholdt) Piers; children, Jill Piers and Ira Socol, and Sharon (Bruce) Dys; grandchildren, Whitney (Keone) and Spencer (Tara); great-grandchildren, Aiden, Parker, and Sophia; brothers-in-law, Don Helmholdt, Floyd (Jane) Helmholdt; and sister-in-law, Carol Dykstra. Gene and Marian attended Rosewood Reformed Church throughout their marriage. He worked for Nash-Kelvinator in Wyoming, MI for many years as tool room supervisor, before retiring from Center Manufacturing in Byron Center. A lifelong sports fan of football and baseball, he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling with his wife, children, and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Rosewood Reformed Church, 2795 Rosewood St., Jenison with Pastors Howard Moths and Austin Vondracek officiating. Burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Rosewood Reformed Church or Sunset Legacy Foundation.
