Erwin N. Van Eck

Erwin N. Van Eck, age 94, of Grandville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 8, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, children, Faye Meekhof and John Van Eck, and son-in-law, Larry DeGroot. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Barbara DeGroot, Bradley Van Eck, Shirley and Scott Handley, Yvonne and John Van Kampen, David and Laurie Van Eck; son-in-law, Ed Meekhof; 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Phillip Van Eck; sister, Thelma and Warren Vernier; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Erwin was a decorated veteran of World War II; he received a commendation as a radio operator who helped intercept two German submarines off the coast of Florida. He was born and grew up in Detroit, was a member of First CRC of Detroit, and worked as a wholesale hardware salesman in the Detroit area, and he loved music, especially listening to and playing the organ. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. with Rev. Adam Barton officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bible League International.
