Elmer Slachter

Elmer Gerrit Slachter, age 94, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Lee; and four siblings. Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Marian; children, Thomas and Colleen Slachter, Jane and Ron Meyering; grandchildren, Matthew Slachter, Mitchell Slachter, Aaron Meyering, Kevin Meyering; Marian’s siblings, Alice Stouten, Gladys Stout, Raymond and Loraine Peterson, Loren Peterson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Elmer enjoyed woodworking and he had numerous projects that kept him busy including antiquing, buying items at auctions, remodeling, rebuilding player pianos, and industrial popcorn sales. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 6, 2023 at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Blvd. NW, Grand Rapids, 49504 with Pastor Craig Swanson officiating. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, November 5, from 2-4 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to First Evangelical Covenant Church.
