
Virginia Ann Armstrong, 94, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Virginia was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her loved ones, creating countless memories that will be forever cherished.
Known for her warm spirit and outgoing personality, Virginia loved being around people and brought joy wherever she went. She also had a passion for garage sales and flea markets, always on the lookout for a unique treasure or hidden gem. Her enthusiasm for buying and selling collectibles earned her the affectionate nickname, “Ginny the Junky,” a title she wore with pride and good humor. Virginia’s kindness, love of family, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Detmers; husband, Charles J. Armstrong; daughter, Sandi and August Lauzon; and brother, Robert Detmers.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Susan and Ron Carpenter, Sally and Don Howland, Shelly and Vince Drobney, Chuck and Cathy Armstrong; seven grandchildren; Jeff, Todd, Chad, Jodi, Jared, Ashley, Brandon; 19 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Rev. Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will be held at Fairplains Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
