Edwin Mersman, age 93, of Grand Rapids, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 20, 2018. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Bea Mersman; his daughter, Mari Donohoe; his second wife, Nina Fisher Mersman; step-son, Roger Fisher. He will be deeply missed by his surviving daughters, Carolyn (Marcus) Blass, RuthAnn (Alan) Versaw; son-in-law, Tim (Kristin) Donohoe; sisters, Phyllis Troast, Barbara (Dale) Brouwer; step-children, Curtis Wayne Fisher (Merilyn), Paula (Rich) Nowakowski; step daughter-in-law, Janice Boersma; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. There are many loving nieces and nephews across the country who adored his quiet and loving demeanor. Ed served as a pilot in World War II, European Campaign. After the war, he raised his family by working as a printer for Zondervan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 23 at 3 pm at Raybrook Manor, 2121 Raybrook SE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Brian Vos officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-3 prior to the service at Raybrook Manor. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Holland Home Resident Assistance Fund at Raybrook Manor, 2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
