Edward Vander Kamp Jr.

Edward Vander Kamp, Jr., aged 94, of Grand Rapids, MI, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 12, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Ann Vander Kamp; brother, Doug (Martha) Vander Kamp; children, Tom (Bonnie) Vander Kamp, Sue (Dave) Langin, Phil (Elizabeth) Vander Kamp; grandchildren, Nate (Kaleigh) Vander Kamp, Nick (Emily) Vander Kamp, Molly (Norbert) Gonzalez, Maggie Coveart, Tressa Vander Kamp, and Mary Vander Kamp; great grandchildren, Avery Quinn, Hannah Vander Kamp, and Connor, Cory, Marleigh Gonzalez. Ed served in World War II as a Sergeant in the 820th Tank Destroyer Battalion, participating in the Battle of the Bulge and in the liberation of Central Europe and Ardennes. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He worked for the United States Post Office for 32 years as a customer representative. In his younger life, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. In retirement Ed and Mary golfed and spent many winters in Florida where they volunteered as scorekeepers at many PGA tournaments. In lieu of flowers, in Ed’s honor, please donate to Calvary Church Grace Beyond project. Funeral services for Edward will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE with Pastor Josh Mateer officiating.   Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 1-2 pm on Monday,
