August 13, 2025

Duane Leslie DeWeerd, age 89, of Hudsonville, was peacefully called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Duane was born to the late Alfred and Angie DeWeerd in Hudsonville, MI, where he remained a life-long resident. He was a man of strong faith and an independent spirit, blessed with a warm sense of humor. For over 50 years, he worked in the building industry, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. A faithful servant, he actively gave of his time and talents to his church, serving as a deacon, building and search committees, and in many other capacities. He deeply loved his family, holding a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, whose lives he faithfully supported and attended as many of their activities as he could.

Following retirement, he and Arlene enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida. Known for his skillful hands, he could fix just about anything and lived by a strong work ethic. He was the steady rock of his family, wise with both finances and numbers—a gift he passed on to his children. Many cherished memories were made at the family cottage on Baptist Lake, where his presence brought joy and togetherness to all who gathered there.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Arlene; his children and grandchildren, Cheryl and Ken Northouse (Katie and Steve Harney, Alana Northouse); Linda and Howard Maidens (Rachel and Michael Howland, Joel and Liza Maidens, Laura and Nicholas Marcinkowski); Jan and Dan Vander Schaaf (Courtney and Jalen Lubbers, Morgan and Caleb Curtis); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Delores “Dee” Dougherty; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcia and Pat Rewa, Marilyn Bosscher; many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nathan Northouse.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Jamestown), 2371 Riley St., Hudsonville with Pastor Jim Jeffery officiating.
