March 13, 2026

Dr. Gene L. Oosterhouse, age 64, of Jenison, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 13, 2026. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cared deeply for those around him. Selfless and thoughtful, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

For more than 35 years, Gene owned and operated his own podiatry practice. Known affectionately as “Doctor O” to his patients, he was deeply loved by those he cared for and truly loved the community he served. His dedication to helping others extended far beyond his profession and reflected the compassion with which he lived his life.

Gene had a great love for duck hunting and cherished the many adventures he shared with his son, Dayton. He especially enjoyed spending time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Faith was an important part of Gene’s life, and he was a devoted member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Known for his kind heart and intentional way of living, Gene often reminded others to “plan, plan ahead,” a phrase that reflected his thoughtful approach to life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his  parents, Henry and Maxine Oosterhouse; brother, Jerome Oosterhouse; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Bob McCullough. Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of five years, Shirley; son, Dayton Oosterhouse and his girlfriend Kelly McLaughlin (grand dog Pip); daughter, Gina and Casey Sellner; duck hunting sons, Eric Chilcote and Kevin Murphree; stepchildren and step grandchildren, Melissa and Pat McGuiness (Paige), Kristen and Sunil Nanjundaram (Blake, Logan, and Kasen), Matt and Jessica Baker (Kytan and Tristan), Kassie Baker and her boyfriend, Dustin Danckaert; siblings, Margie (Frank) DeGroot Wiers, Thea (Rod) Blom, Sylvia (Dave) Aukeman, Henry (Brenda) Oosterhouse; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy (Dave) VanderLinde, Mary Jane Klein, Marsha (Rick) Klenk, Larry (Cindy) Klein, Tony (Debbie) Klein; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor David Overway officiating.
