Doris Arlene VanderLugt

Doris Arlene (VanStraten) VanderLugt, age 89, was welcomed into heaven on Thursday April 14, 2022. She was born on August 9, 1932, to John and Dora VanStraten in Ellsworth, Michigan. On November 9, 1951, she married Gerald VanderLugt and together they enjoyed 39 years of marriage until his passing in 1990. They enjoyed attending Michigan Wolverine football games and traveling together.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mary (Mike) Braat, Jerry (Diane) VanderLugt, and Randy (Twyla) VanderLugt; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Doris is also survived by her in-laws: Bob and Mary Ann Bakker, Nelson and Martha VanderLugt, Joyce VanderLugt, and Ken VanderLugt, along with many nieces and nephews.
For many years, Doris was the bookkeeper for Calvin Christian Schools. She loved her church and spent many years singing in the church choir. Her last Facebook post was a favorite song of hers “What a day that will be when my Jesus I will see.”

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Hank Vlaardingerbroek officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday, April 18 from 6 – 8 pm and again one hour before the service on Tuesday.
