Donald Small, age 88, of Jenison, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Neuman and Patricia VanDrunen. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Mable; sons, Scott and Karen Small, Keith and Andy Small; grandchildren, Sara and Scott Doolittle, Micky and Janica Melefsky; great grandchildren, Peyton Doolittle, Kailyn Doolittle, Wyatt Cheney; brothers, Ivan Clifford Small, Jack and Barbara Small; sisters, Mary and John Slott, Suzanne Gibson; dear friends, Pastor James and Cindy Metcalf, Tom and Rose Busman; many nieces and nephews. Donald valiantly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a caring, kind, thoughtful, and gentle man. He was very proud of his 22 year work career at Steelcase and his military service in Korea. Don enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. The family would like to thank the staff at Metro Hospital for their outstanding care, and Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods for their tender and loving care. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW, with Rev. Rodney Otto officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church or Faith Hospice.
