Dennis Deters

April 1, 2026

Dennis Harry Deters, age 63, of Hudsonville, took his last breath on earth and took his next breath in the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. His beautiful, deep bass voice is now singing eternal praise around the throne of God.

He was a dedicated truck driver for the Jasper Weller Family for many years, faithfully serving with a strong work ethic and quiet pride in his work. He shared his God-given gift of music as a member of the Faithful Journey Quartet, blessing many people through this ministry of music. At Chapel Pointe Church, he championed the greeting ministry, warmly welcoming others with a servant’s heart that truly defined his life.

He loved to travel and embraced the simple joys along the way—from riding his motorcycle to savoring a good cup of dark roast coffee. Known for his love of dad jokes, he brought laughter and light to those around him. A devoted fan of Michigan sports teams, he rarely missed a chance to cheer them on.

Above all, he was a faithful and loving husband, dad, and papa who treasured every moment spent with his family. His servant-hearted spirit resonated in everything he did, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will not be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry “Butch” Deters and Bernis Deters Grant; father-in-law, Floyd Hettinga; stepbrother, Tim Grant; and stepsister, Cheryl Grant.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Jan Deters; children, Lauryn (Caleb) VanderVeen, Olivia Deters (Alden Brantley), Harrison (Kerstin) Deters; grandchildren, Jobe, Laiyla, Freija, William, Astrid, Brynnlee, Ingrid; one grandchild in heaven and one on the way; sister, Denise (Rick) Smith; mother-in-law, Laura Hettinga; stepfather, Lew Grant; sisters-in-law, Linda Sheler, Deb Starett; Sherry Grant Slabaugh; several  loving nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be on Dennis’ birthday, Monday, April 6, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Chapel Pointe, 3350 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, with Pastor Bill Bennett and Pastor Bob Bloom officiating. The burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Ricky and Kati Sanford Missions Housing Fund in care of Chapel Pointe.
