April 29, 2026

DEHN, OP, Sister Diane, of Grand Rapids was gently called home to God on April 29, 2026, at the age of 88, after 68 years of joyful and faithful Dominican religious life.

Sister Diane Dehn, a woman of deep faith and gentle spirit, devoted her life to serving others and guiding them along their paths. Inspired by the psalmist’s words, “a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path,” she became that steady light for countless students and colleagues.

Born on June 25, 1937, in Belding, Michigan, to John and Margaret (Talbot) Dehn, Diane felt a strong call to religious life during her years as a student at Aquinas College. She entered Marywood in 1957 and later earned her Bachelor of Arts from Aquinas in 1960. She began her ministry teaching in elementary schools before pursuing advanced degrees in religious education and educational administration.

Sister Diane spent much of her life at Aquinas College, serving as an instructor, advisor, and Associate Dean of Students—fondly known as “Dean Dehn.” She later found her true calling in academic advising, where her calm presence, patience, and wisdom helped many students, especially adult learners, navigate their studies. Many remembered her with gratitude, saying she “set them on the right path.”

Known for her kindness and simplicity, Sister Diane found joy in walking, reading, practicing Tai Chi, and baking for others. She was deeply devoted to her family, faithfully visiting her mother and nurturing quiet, meaningful relationships.

Through decades of dedicated service, Sister Diane lived her faith with humility and grace. She will be remembered as a compassionate guide and a steady light in the lives of many.

Sister Diane will repose at Marywood Chapel of the Word, 111 Lakeside Dr. NE, with a Remembering Service on May 4, at 9:00 am and Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.  Memorials in Sister Diane’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters.
