July 5, 2026

Janice A. McDougall peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 5, 2026, where she now joins her beloved husband, Don, in praising God forever.

Born on September 28, 1940, in Mt. Morris, Michigan, Jan was the daughter of George and Gertrude Salisbury. She graduated from Vassar High School in 1958 before earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. She continued her education through graduate studies at the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University.

Jan devoted her life to teaching and encouraging others. She began her career with Wyoming Public Schools and later retired from Caledonia Community Schools, where she invested in generations of students. She considered teaching not merely a profession but a calling, and the young lives she influenced remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of everything she did. Jan faithfully served her church through Bible school, church choir, and many other ministries. She was known for her gentle spirit, servant's heart, quiet wisdom, and unwavering trust in God.

Jan shared more than six decades of marriage with her husband, Don McDougall. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and service to others. Following Don's passing just four weeks earlier, Jan's family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited in the presence of their Savior.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Don McDougall; her parents, George and Gertrude Salisbury; her brothers, Rowley, Glenn, and Lyle Salisbury; her sisters, Arlene Merriam, Geneva Schaller, and Shirley Novotny; her parents-in-law, Karl and Lyla McDougall; her sister- and brother-in-law, Flora and Buel Andrus; and her brother-in-law, Jack Reitz.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Robert Scott McDougall; her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Lynn and Brian Scott Schaffer; her cherished granddaughters, Miriam Grace Schaffer and Lydia Hope Schaffer; her beloved grandson, Odin Scott McDougall; and many nieces, nephews, former students, dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ whose lives were enriched by her love and example.  Jan was deeply loved by many, and will be profoundly missed.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a joint visitation and celebration of the lives of Don and Jan McDougall, honoring a marriage of more than 60 years and the enduring legacy of faith, family, and love they leave behind on Friday, July 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Avenue SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 12:15 p.m. at Grandville Cemetery, 3570 Prairie Street SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418. Lunch and fellowship for family and friends will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Jan’s love of dogs with a contribution to Paws With A Cause.
