
David Tietema, age 83, of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 25, 2020. David was a beautiful, caring, loving man who was known for his honesty and sincerity. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps and was a life-long member of Amvets Post 126. Dave was a member of St. Frances Cathedral and also attended Woodbrook Cathedral the past several years. He loved music and gardening and was blessed with a gift to grow anything and make it look beautiful. He also had a love for taking care of God’s little birds. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Tietema; and brother, Robert Tietema. David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandy; stepchildren, Cindy Burdo, Tammy Heibel, and Michael Smith; siblings, Scott and Nancy Tietema, Patrick Tietema, Joan and Jim Zawacki; several nieces, nephews, whose sporting events he enjoyed watching. He was a wonderful husband, stepdad, grandpa, and uncle who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49546, with Fr. Peter Damian presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday from 4-7 pm with a vigil service at 7 pm led by Pastor J.B. Stutts of Wood Brook Cathedral at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr SW Grandville, 49418. Burial Resurrection Cemetery.
