March 26, 2026

David Miedema, age 81, of Grandville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Born on April 22, 1944, in Ripon, California, he grew up working the summers in the vineyards and almond orchards. He moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan when he was 19. A few months later he met his wife, Lynne, on a blind date. After they were married, David served his country in the United States Air Force in Maine and California.

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who deeply loved his family. David will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, as well as his sense of humor. He loved a good joke and was known by his family for his memorable “one-liners.” He had a welcoming heart and always made others feel included.

For many years, he was the owner of David & Company Hair Salon. He dedicated over 60 years of his life as a licensed cosmetologist, teaching his new staff and serving others with perfection and care.

David and Lynne shared a love of travel and treasured their time at Lake Leelanau, where they created years of memories with their children and grandchildren. David was an avid fisherman and found great joy being outdoors in the summer.

David loved his Savior Jesus Christ. This motivated him to serve in his church and in prison ministry throughout his life. He was a man of prayer and Bible study.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence and Betty Miedema, Kathleen and Roger Westmaas, Gerald and Adri Miedema; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Bern Gelder, Russ Walcott, and Harold Walcott.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Lynne; children, Mike and Carrie Miedema, Shelly and Kurt Kunst, Marc and Becky Miedema, Amelia and Mike Broekhuis; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: David Miedema, Jacquelyn and Seth Ritsema (Kinsley and Dylan), Kendra and Luke Postma (Judson), Kyle and Vanessa Kunst, Matthew Kunst, Emma, Jovie, and Henry Miedema, Seth and Maggie Broekhuis, Drew, and John Broekhuis; sister-in-law, Faith Walcott; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Grace Bible Church, 3715 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville with Pastor Todd Kinde officiating. A private burial will take place at Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday, March 31 from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.
