Betty Hassevoort, age 88, of Hudsonville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 3, 2026. She was born in Zeeland, Michigan, to the late Manus and Gertrude DeRoo.
Betty was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding her greatest joy in the simple blessings of home and family. Whether welcoming loved ones around the table or keeping a watchful eye over the family farm, she treasured the life she had built and the people she loved most.
Farm life was always a part of who she was. She delighted in looking out across the fields, knew each of the cows by name, found joy in watching the birds that visited her yard, and lovingly tended to her beautiful flower gardens.
Before she was married, she enjoyed traveling with her girlfriends, creating memories that she cherished throughout her life. She was also a longtime member of North Blendon Christian Reformed Church, where she faithfully shared her time and talents in many ways, quietly serving both her church family and the Lord she loved.
Above all, her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and her deep love for her family were evident to everyone who knew her. She lived a life marked by kindness, faithfulness, and contentment, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and steadfast devotion that will be treasured for generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Don Hassevoort; brother, Gerald DeRoo; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jan (Kevin) Zoerhof, Gloria (John) Nagelkirk, Sheryl (Doug) Ulberg, Doug (Sue) Hassevoort, Darlene Ham, Dan (Mary) Hassevoort; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bern (Janet) DeRoo, Dorothy DeRoo, Art (Arlene) DeRoo, Wayne (Joyce) Blaukamp, Harv (Sherri) DeRoo; siblings-in-law, Ken Knap, Terry Kraai, Bev Hassevoort; and many, many loving nieces and nephews.
