David Luyk

David Martin Luyk, age 78, of Grandville, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 29, 2024. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a charter member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed using his time and talents serving his church. Dave touched many lives during his 37 years of teaching at Oakdale Christian Middle School. His passion for mentoring young people was also evident in his love for coaching football, basketball, and baseball. In his spare time, he loved watching sports, reading, and fishing with his brother, Doug. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Janice Luyk; children, Kristin and Tim VanWieren, Barry Luyk; grandchildren, Brennan VanWieren, Sophia VanWieren; brother, Doug and Darci Luyk; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lee Yonker, Gary and Wilma Huizenga, Beth Rupp, Robert and Marie-Cecile Groelsema, Rev. Tom and Sheri Groelsema; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 3500 Byron Center Ave. SW Wyoming. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 1, from 4-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Lighthouse Community Ministries through Calvary Christian Reformed Church or Daffodil Ministries.
