David Leslie Moore was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 7, 1949.  He graduated from Cass Technical High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy.  David served aboard two aircraft carriers during the Vietnam war.  During this time he spent two-and-a-half years with American Forces Radio.   Upon returning home after his tour of duty David attended and graduated from Specs Howard School of Broadcasting and began his career in radio.  David worked at many radio stations in Michigan and Indiana over the years with his longest tenure at WGVU as Morning Edition host.  For 27 years, David helped Michiganders start their mornings informed and prepared, bringing listeners news, weather, and traffic from 1987 until his retirement in 2014.  Along with having the perfect voice for radio David was a gifted writer and had a way of making people feel at ease during interviews.  All of these things led to his success in his career.

In 2000 David met Gina Petruziello who became his bride.  They shared 26 loving years together navigating life’s ups and downs.  They shared a love for dogs and adopted many over the years.  They also shared a love for other animals especially the squirrels which they fed, spending time in nature, going to concerts and plays, and enjoying the simple joys in life.

Aside from David’s career he will most be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anyone he met who was in need.  In his retirement years David volunteered at Faith Hospice, the local VA Health Center, and Grandville Senior Neighbors.  While still employed David also served on the Board of Directors at the Humane Society of West Michigan.

Donations in David’s memory may be made to Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue, Grand Rapids Pitbull Alliance, Dutchess County SPCA, or any organization that supports animal welfare.
