David Carl Husted

David Husted, age 78, of Hudsonville passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane, with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage. David was the proud father of two children, Michelle (Donovan) Brittain, and John (Sandy) Husted. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Nia Brittain, Elyse Brittain, Zachary Husted, and Brody Husted. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace Husted; in-laws, Ralph and Rose Marshall; sister, Donna (Jason) Herron; sister, Marjorie (Eugene) Robach; brother, Arlen (Valarie) Husted; and grandson, Aiden Husted.

David was a beloved husband, father, and friend whose quiet strength and enduring love touched everyone who knew him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering support lives on through them, as well as the countless lives he impacted.

David attended Catholic Central High School and obtained his BA from Ferris State College and MBA from Grand Valley State University. He enlisted in the Michigan National Guard, 3rd Bn 126 Infantry in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1976. 

David worked for the Michigan Department of Treasury from 1970 to 2001 and retired as an administrator in the audit division. Also, in 2001, he began his new career as a tax manager with the consulting group Business Strategies, Inc. He ultimately retired in 2011.

He was an active and founding member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Jenison. David was also a founding member for both the Knights of Columbus Council 7487 and the 4th Degree Assembly 3102. He is a former Grand Knight for Council 7487. He served in various volunteer roles with the West Michigan Credit Union and was recently honored as an Emeritus Board Member. In honor of his 45-year commitment to public service, The David C. Husted Scholarship was created in his name as West Michigan Credit Union. 

David will be remembered for his warm heart, steady presence, and the love he gave so generously to his family and friends. He enjoyed volunteering at the Frederick Meijer Gardens, genealogy, being a sports spectator for his grandchildren, gardening, golf, soaking in his pool, and being a lifelong fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison with Fr. Phong Pham. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Monday, October 28, from 5-8 pm with a Rosary at 7:30 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.
