David Fredrick Oom, age 53, of Caledonia, Michigan, passed away on September 9, 2025, after a brief but severe illness.

Born and raised in Hastings, Michigan, Dave grew up with a deep love of sports. He excelled in tennis, soccer, and basketball, and was voted a varsity captain of each in High School.  He later attended Ferris State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Tennis Management. His passion for tennis led to a successful career as a professional instructor, where he taught at exclusive clubs including the Congressional Country Club in Washington, D.C., as well as in North Carolina, Florida, and Michigan.

In 1998, Dave married the love of his life, Sarah, and together they raised their two children, Andrew and Elle, in Caledonia. Several years ago, Dave embarked on a new chapter as a realtor with Greenridge Realty, where he earned the prestigious President’s Award and was recognized as a “Superstar” for his work with American Home Shield.  He also gained recognition as one of the Top 100 Realtors in the Grand Rapids area.

Of all his accomplishments, Dave was most proud of his family. He loved them fiercely, never hesitating to share his pride in his children’s achievements. He could be found cheering from the sidelines at countless school events, not only for Andrew and Elle but also for his beloved nieces and nephews. Dave adored his dogs North and Dune.  This was evident by their frequent appearances on his social media.  He loved spending time with them, playing with them in the yard and taking them on family vacations.

Dave’s love of sports continued throughout his life, whether playing golf and pickleball, or enjoying each fantasy football season with a tight group of lifelong friends. A devoted fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers as well as the University of Michigan teams, he embraced both the thrill of competition and the joy of camaraderie.

Known for his warmth, humor, and genuine kindness, Dave had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. He lit up every room he entered, was a loyal listener, and left countless people grateful to call him a friend. His bond with his entire family was very strong, sharing a lifetime of sports, games, and family traditions, including holidays and cherished trips to Hilton Head Island and Sutton's Bay.

Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sarah; his children, Andrew and Elle (fiancé Abel Boetsma); his parents, Bernie and Sue; his in-laws, Jim (Peg) Beall and Bev Plagenhoef; his sister, Laura (Tom) Middaugh; his brother, Wayne (Kate) Oom; his brother-in-law, Bill (Lisa) Beall; his nieces and nephews, Nick Beall, Alex (Sam) Shick, Josh and Rachel Oom, Lydia (Daniel) Tsuber, Leah, Elisabeth, and Jonathan Middaugh; grandnephew, Simon Shick. He will also be deeply missed by his uncles, aunts, cousins, and countless friends whose lives he touched.

Dave’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and fierce devotion to family will be carried forward. To know Dave was to be his friend, and his memory will forever bring smiles.

Memorial services to celebrate Dave’s life will be held 11 am Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Ada Bible Church Kentwood Campus, 2045 68th St SE, Caledonia, with Pastor Ben Vaught officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 10-11am prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Buddy Up for Life.
