Cynthia Haarsma

Cynthia Haarsma, age 83, of Jenison, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 7, 2023. The daughter of Sam and Minnie (Draayer) Wynia, Cynthia was raised on a farm near Maurice, Iowa. She attended a country school and graduated eighth grade from Sioux Center Public School. Cynthia was united in marriage to Wilson E. Haarsma on August 12, 1960 in Sioux Center. They moved to Kalamazoo, MI where her husband taught in South Christian School. Here they raised their four children, Kevin, Paul, and twin daughters, Kimberly and Kristie. The family eventually moved to Jenison when Wilson was appointed elementary principal of Jenison Christian School. She remained a homemaker, cleaned houses for the elderly in the Grand Rapids area, and worked for a short time at Blodgett Hospital. Cynthia was a member of Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, fishing, knitting, and quilting and was a member of the quilting club at church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Lewis, John, and Syne along with their wives; and two sisters, Sadie and Wilminia. Cynthia will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 63 years, Wilson; children, Kevin and Beth Haarsma, Paul and Teresa Haarsma, Kimberly and Martin Visser, and Kristie Jasperse; eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Jeff, Heather, Sam, and Stephanie Haarsma; Sarah, Lauren, Cole, and Blake Visser; Brennan, and Madison Jasperse. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, 1571 Baldwin St., Jenison, 49428 with Pastor Cindy Holtrop officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Ridgewood CRC or M.M.O.R.E. ℅ Ridgewood CRC.
